About
Monica Herndon is an Emmy award winning photojournalist at The Philadelphia Inquirer. She works in a hybrid role, contributing to both still and video coverage on stories across the newsroom. Her main areas of focus are food, portraits and sports. Monica is also an FAA certified commercial drone pilot.
Before moving to the cheesesteak capital of the world, she spent five years at the Tampa Bay Times, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Monica is a past Chair of the National Association of Black Journalists Visual Task Force and a member of NPPA and Diversify Photo.
In 2022, Monica won Best in Show in the NPPA Northern Short Course contest for one of her portraits in Wildest Dreams. She also won a 2022 Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Award for her video work on the project.
